Manet & Morisot
Step into the world of Impressionism through one of its most intimate and influential relationships. Join us for a captivating lecture with Emily Beeny, curator of the acclaimed exhibition Manet & Morisot, as she explores the extraordinary bond between Édouard Manet and Berthe Morisot—friends and colleagues, painter and model, collectors of one another’s work, and even family by marriage.
More closely connected than any other two figures in the Impressionist circle, Manet and Morisot inspired, challenged, and shaped each other’s artistic vision. This richly illustrated talk reveals how their friendship and creative exchange helped chart the course of modern art.
Emily Beeny brings exceptional depth to this story. She is Chief Curator of the Legion of Honor and Barbara A. Wolfe Curator in Charge of European Paintings at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and a leading authority on French art of the 17th–19th centuries. Her career includes curatorial roles at the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Norton Simon Museum, as well as the organization of major international exhibitions. A recipient of the Prix du rayonnement de la langue et de la littérature françaises from the Académie française, Beeny combines rigorous scholarship with an engaging, accessible approach—making this lecture both enlightening and unforgettable.
